Foundations21 was devised by Tony Bradley, who approached BRF in September 2000 with the idea of a multimedia web-based discipleship resource. Since then a team of people - in Abingdon, Oxford, Birmingham, and Bangalore, India - have been involved in bringing Foundations21 to life. As far as we know it's the first of its kind, anywhere in the world.
Foundations21 was first launched in July 2006 on a paid-subscription basis and has gradually built up a loyal core group of users for whom it has become a significant resource for their Christian journey. However, it has become clear that the prevailing view about the Internet is that content should be free, and although many people have expressed admiration and respect for Foundations21 and for what it provides, its subscription basis is regarded as an obstacle to it being taken up and used more widely by individuals, churches and Christian organisations.
BRF's Trustees therefore took a major step of faith in late 2008 and decided to offer Foundations21 as a gift to the church, thus making access available completely free of charge to anyone who wishes to explore and use it. At the heart of BRF's ministry is a desire to equip people for Christian living. Through Foundations21 we want to make a difference and to change lives. We know that Foundations21 is already making a real impact on individual lives – many of those who are already using it have told us so!
BRF is grateful to the charitable trusts and individuals who have shared the vision for Foundations21 and so generously supported it financially to bring it this far. Foundations21 has become one of BRF's core ministries and as such will require further funding support to enable us to sustain its annual running and further development costs. Our hope is that those who benefit from it being freely available now will catch the vision for how it may resource others, and support us going forward as part of their own giving.
'Foundations21 is now the best free resource for people who want to think about and grow in faith, as individuals or in groups.'
